The 2012 Vintage Yachting Games is the second post-Olympic multi-class sailing event for discontinued Olympic classes
. The event will be held July 7–15, 2012 on Lake Como

. The organization of this event lies in the hands of the Multilario, a joint venture of local yacht clubs at Lake Como. The Vintage Yachting Games Organization (VYGO) will govern the organization.

Following loosely the Olympic tradition, Como’s project manager Pietro Adamoli (right) received the Vintage Yachting Games Flag during the closing ceremony of the 2008 Vintage in Medemblik
, The Netherlands from the mayor of Medemblik: Theo van Eijk. The flag will be on display at all Multilario sailing events until the Vintage 2012 opening ceremony. Who the 2012 Vintage will open is not decided yet.
Only one voting round was needed to determine the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games location. In the voting process the Vintage Olympic Classes of 2008 each class could cast one vote and each vote counted as one.
The potential 2012 classes could also each cast one vote but the outcome of the potential classes counted as one in the total. The combined vote of the potential classes went to Cannes.
The overall winner of the voting process became Multilario from Lake Como, Italy with 4 votes out of 6.

. Depending of the class and their sailors a final choice will be made.
When the right of organizing the 2nd Vintage Yachting Games was granted to Lake Como it triggered the Sailing Club of Bellano to build a new Clubhouse. This club house is supposed to be operational before the opening of the Vintage Yachting Games 2012.
Another concern is the number of participants per class. This is based on quota determined by the VYGO and takes mainly the number of countries were a class is still active into account. The aim for the VYGO organization is 20+ yachts per class at the starting line from at least 5 countries. In most classes this results in 2 boats per country plus wildcards. Especially classes with just a few countries are asking for an increase of the number of competitors. For them at this moment the VYGO aims for 5 or 6 yachts per country.

The Multilario bid
Multilario responded enthusiastic on the request of Alberto Barenghi, President of the International Flying Dutchman Class Organization and chairman of the Vintage Yachting Games Organization’s Supervisory board, for candidate Lake Como as host for the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games and submitted an extensive proposal based on the bidding template to the VYGO. It was this proposal the voting classes based their vote on.Kick-off

Concerns
The major concern, based upon the 2008 experience, is the high ratio of no shows and extreme late cancellations of competitors. This must be the main issue for the organization and the VYGO.Another concern is the number of participants per class.
