Organization
28th Infantry Regiment, originally known as McRae's Emergency Regiment and also called 2nd Trans-Mississippi Regiment, was organized during the summer of 1862. Colonel Dandridge McRae, Lieutenant Colonel John E. Glenn, and Major W. S. Hanna were in command. The unit was inducted into Confederate Service on in June or July. The unit was composed of volunteer companies from the following counties:- Company A, organized in White County, Arkansas
- Company B, organized in White County, Arkansas
- Company C, organized in Prairie County, Arkansas
- Company D, organized in Van Buren County, Arkansas
- Company E, organized in White County, Arkansas
- Company F, organized in Conway County., Arkansas
- Company G, organized in Pulaski County, Arkansas (includes men from other regiments who were hospitalized at Little Rock)
- Company H, organized in White County, Arkansas
- Company I, organized in Conway County., Arkansas
- Company K, organized in Pulaski County, Arkansas
