dancing. On the screen of the machine, arrows corresponding to each one of the buttons and sensors scroll upwards on the background until they reach a stationary set of arrows (often called "receptors") on top of the screen, which indicate the moment when the player must step on the corresponding arrow and/or activate the corresponding sensor.

There are 3 main screens in the game: The song selection screen where the player selects the song to be played and applies the modifiers, the dance screen where the player must hit the buttons and activate the sensors corresponding to the arrows on the screen, and the grading screen where the player receives a grade depending on their performance.

Grading

The grading system in 3DDX is similar to the one of Pump It Up. A judgment of "Perfect", "Great", "Good", "Bad" or "Miss" will be given for each one of the arrows depending how accurately the player pressed the arrow or activated the sensor. At the end of the song, the game will grade the performance according to the amount of arrows hit.
