The 76th Reconnaissance Group was a World War II
United States Army Air Forces
organization. It served primarily in the American Theatre.
The unit was constituted on 5 February 1942 and activated on 27 February. The group was a Third Air Force training unit for Reconnaissance and Observation aircraft pilots. It also served as part of the Desert Training Center in Southern California as an instructional unit, assisting Second Army on maneuvers, May–September 1943; participated in maneuvers with ground forces in the California-Arizona desert training area beginning in September 1943.
It was redesignated as the 6th Reconnaissance Group in April 1943, and 76th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in August 1943. It was disbanded on 15 April 1944.
