and a provider of environmental solutions, rural development services and policy advice. ADAS is the company’s registered trading name, formerly standing for Agricultural Development Advisory Service.

History

ADAS Originally formed in 1946 as the National Agricultural Advisory Service (NAAS) advising the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) it became the Agricultural Development and Advisory Service (ADAS) in 1971, in 1997 Agricultural Development and Advisory Service was privatised and is now known just as ADAS.
To this day ADAS remains a preferred supplier to Governments and a wide range of enterprises in the public and private sectors, throughout the UK and internationally.

ADAS operates from a network of 21 offices and research sites in England, Scotland and Wales, with a head office in Wolverhampton. It employs over 700 people with expertise in over 60 specialties.

Turnover for the year ended 30 September 2006 was £42.5 million and profits before tax were £3.6 million. ADAS was recently acquired by specialist private equity group, London and Oxford Capital Management.

Envar

Envar Limited (Envar) is a wholly owned subsidiary of ADAS and operates commercial and municipal waste management services throughout the UK.

Cambridge Environmental Assessments

Cambridge Environmental Assessments (CEA), a division of ADAS, is a leader in chemical risk assessments. It works with a number of companies providing regulatory advice and delivering tailored risk assessments to support registrations of products across Europe. CEA has 12 core staff and two associates.
