Metal Exposure webzine gave the album eight points out of ten, and the reviewer stated that the album "will be one of the best cd-releases of 2010 in the black/viking metalscene". The best review so far, from Heavymetal.no gave the album nine out of ten points and wrote that "with their fourth album titled A Forlorn Throne, the Dutchmen finally delivered a brutal and memorable album that can withstand comparisons with Månegarm, Amon Amarth and classic At the Heart of Winter era Immortal."

Recording
The band went to Sweden's Studio Mega in late 2009 with producer Johan "the ant" Örnborg to record A Forlorn Throne. It was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street, and the cover artwork as well as a new logo was designed by Raymond Swanland of OddworldOddworld
