The group formed in 2003 and included brothers Sean Kelly, Dominic Kelly, and Brendan Kelly. In 2006, bassist Shaun Rhoades joined the group. The band has put out three albums. The first album, Wishful Thinking, was put out on indie label Audem Records and sold on various online music stores. Their second album, Beautiful Noise, which was produced by Grammy-winning producer and musician Malcolm Burn
, was put out in May 2008 independently by the band. A third album, Tripping Over Nothing was released in February 2010 on the band's own label, Piewillie Records. A Fragile Tomorrow played for over 30,000 people at the Papal Youth Rally on April 20, 2008 in Yonkers, New York

Initially, it was available in CD format at shows and from the band's official website, and also in download format on the band's site. In October 2008, the album became available on digital outlets such as iTunes

The album was released on February 23, 2010. The band put out the record on their own label, Piewillie Records. They are touring in support of it, most recently opening for the Indigo Girls
The band announced on their Facebook
page that they would be releasing a digital-only EP in November or December 2010 that includes semi-acoustic versions of three songs from Tripping Over Nothing and one brand new song.

In February 2011, the band went back out on the road with Indigo Girls

On April 19th, 2011, the band released a live record called Live at Awendaw Green that was recorded at a show in Awendaw, SC in December 2010.
In summer 2011, the band announced their plans to start work on their fourth studio record. Preproduction began in fall 2011, and recording is said to begin in January 2012.
On September 26, 2011, A Fragile Tomorrow announced via their Facebook page that they would be opening for The Bangles
on the west coast leg of their November 2011 tour.
