Abdul Ghani was the president of the Consultative Council from 2003 until his death in 2011.
He studied political science in the USA at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, and invited Professor Fred Sonderman of that college to visit Yemen in November 1977.
He died in Saudi Arabia on 22 August 2011 from injuries suffered in a June assassination attempt on President Ali Abdullah Saleh
