History

Acronis, founded in 2001, is a privately held company. Originally focused on disk partitioning and boot loader software, they moved towards backup and disaster recovery by utilizing disk imaging technology. Their flagship product line was Acronis True Image until 2009, at which time it was replaced in the corporate environment by Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.

In July 2003, Acronis appointed Synapsys Systems (Pty) Ltd as their authorized distributor in South Africa.
