The Sundown Marathon, previously known as Adidas Sundown Marathon, would be considered a Sports Tourism
Event. The official sponsor for the event have change to New Balance.
This marathon
is organized by the same team who made the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore Triathlon possible. It started in 2008 and had been ongoing for Four years till now. The race takes place once a year in Singapore
. This race is unique in that it is Asia's only mass night running event. The race attracts athletes from all walks of life and managed to attract 10,670 entrants in the 2009 race.
There are different races and they are namely the ultramarathon
(84.39 km), the marathon (42.195 km), the Women (10 km) and the Team/Corporate Challenge (10 km x 4 runners). All races starts at different time on the same night.
In 2011, 84 km ultramarathon was replaced with 100 km ultramarathon.
Participants would have to pay a fee to participate in the race. The price varies according when the registration is made, the category of event participants are interested in, and the runners' history of participation in the event.
This year’s route travelled through some of east’s most beautiful urban park
s as well as major local landmarks such as Bedok Reservoir
, East Coast Park
and the Changi Ferry Terminal; all set to the backdrop of Singapore’s night sky.
A new addition to the event is also the introduction of the Women’s 10KM which has garnered remarkable response from the public which totals to about 2,200 runners .

Adidas Sundown Marathon organizers made use of Singapore’s numerous parks while planning the route and “travels through some of east's most beautiful urban parks as well as major local landmarks such as Bedok Reservoir, East Coast Park and the Changi Ferry Terminal; all set to the backdrop of Singapore's night sky.”
Sundown Festival village also made use of large spaces of the park to organize this family friendly event.
National Identity and Morale:
A marathon itself is enough to spur people on in terms of morale and determination but the Adidas Sundown Marathon made good use of this opportunity to organize all categories of the race including a corporate race, which was fully registered and booked by local and multinational companies
for their workers by the time registration closed. The corporate race enables company bonding and acts as a time for workers motivations.
Environmentally:
The organizers also made sure that the routes were kept clean and no rubbish were littered. These were kept in check by cleaners and volunteers.
Promotes healthy lifestyle, as marathon runners often train months before the actually event and often, this lifestyle continues even after the race itself. Friends and family also gets motivated and encouraged to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Psychological:
Marathon runners often set their own goals for the race, in terms of timing and distances covered. Being able to achieve these goals highly motivates the runners mentally and enables them to gain a higher self confidence.
Risk:
There is a risk though, as the Adidas Sundown Marathon includes an ultra marathon which spans more than a day and participants risks collapsing and suffering from serious running injuries. However, medics are on-site to deal with emergencies.

The Marathon has surpassed the record turnout set at last year’s inaugural race. As of 3 March 2009, more than 10,000 men and women have signed up for “Singapore’s Toughest Race”. This total breaks the event’s previous entry record of 6,088 participants. A total marathon field of over 5,500 turned up on Saturday, May 30. While the Sundown Marathon’s companion race, the Sundown Ultramarathon, is nearing the 280 participant mark and is on pace to shatter the record field of 322 participants set last year.
