Club career

During his career as player, Bumbescu won the Romanian championship with three different teams, something unparalleled. His first league appearances came during 1978–79, with hometown club FC Universitatea Craiova

. After winning the league in his second season, Bumbescu signed with FC Dinamo Bucureşti and won another championship in 1981–82.
