Aiplex Software
Encyclopedia
Aiplex Software is a company based in India
contracted by the MPAA
to deliver copyright notices to websites that they deem violate copyright laws, and distributed denial-of-service attack
s (DDoS) to said sites if they fail to remove the offending content. Both Aiplex Software and the MPAA were subjected to a DDoS attack themselves as a result of said contract.
Aiplex have openly admitted to engaging in illegal actions such as Distributed Denial of Service attacks against various anti-copyright websites. In September 2011, Aiplex began sending requests to bloggers to remove the content and links of articles that reported on Aiplex's use of DDoS attacks, claiming that such media coverage was "defaming the company’s image & its prospects."
Aiplex has also sent a misunderstood request to "takedown" content to Techdirt
, claiming defamation on content on a website unrelated to Techdirt. Techdirt states in their article "First of all, they used our copyright notification email, and this issue has nothing to do with copyright. Second, they are asking us to remove our content from a site that is not ours, and which we have no control over"..."Anyway, seeing as we don't control the web page they've asked us to take down, we obviously won't be doing a damn thing about it, other than to publish this post and hope that, sometime in the future, Aiplex learns a little bit about how the web works."
