Veerabhadra Swamy Sambaram
This festival is celebrated on the occasion of MahaSivaratri at Veerabhadra Swamy temple situated at Salipet. This festival is celebrated grandly. All day long the devotees observe fast and perform the pujas. A few devotees pierce their cheeks with tridents and go around the town to show their strong belief in Lord Siva. "Fire Walking" (Nippula Gundam) is celebrated on the festival night. Devotees walk over a bed of glowing coals. Devotees who want to participate in "Fire walking" have to fast the whole day. The belief is that only people who fast can walk without getting burned at all.
