Alain Bouquin was the General Commander of the French Foreign Legion
from 1 July 2009 to 1 September 2011 succeeding to General Louis Pichot de Champfleury who commanded the Legion from 2006 to 2008.

From 1995 to 2000, General Bouquin served at l'état major des Armées (EMA), then at l'état-major des forces françaises stationed in Djibouti
as chief of operations. In 2000, he took command over the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment
, while still on duty, he joined the CID as chief of operation simulation before become an auditor for the 54ème promotion du CHEM and the 57ème promotion de l'Institut des Hautes études de la Défense Nationale (IHEDN).
