It describes itself as an educational model that empowers all youth to take ownership of their educational experience, to celebrate their diverse community, and to actively participate as members in a democratic society. It now focuses more on being a democratic society where students can decide what they want. ACLC's student population is representative of the general population of Alameda, CA. Enrollment in the ACLC occurs according to a district run lottery system due to a high demand and relatively low student spots available.

Courses

The ACLC has a set of graduation requirements
designed to meet University of California requirements. They have a period of the day called 'Project Time' which students use to do projects or do homework. They also have a Digital Music program.

DVS

The ACLC offers an elective course called TV/Media, commonly known as Digital Video Studio (DVS). TV/Media allows learners to learn the arts of making various kinds of movies, from documentary to short films.
