Keane missed a penalty and scored an own goal in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League tie against Albanian side Vllaznia
. In the second leg he scored at the right end. He went on to become Rovers regular penalty taker during the 2010 season scoring some important goals including one in the last minute of the season against St. Patricks Athletic to secure 3rd place. He did however miss in the FAI Cup
final shoot-out two weeks later.
Keane has become a popular player at the Showgrounds because of his energetic runs, fighting spirit and consistent displays. Although mainly a right-back he had to play as a centre-back on may occasions particularly during the 2009 season due to injuries and started the FAI Cup final there alongside Gavin Peers
that year. Since been allowed to play more regularly at right-back his performances have made him one of the stand out players in a talented squad and he regularly gets forward and contributes to attacks.
