Alarum are a 4-piece progressive
technical metal jazz-fusion band from Melbourne
, Australia
. They are stylistically quite similar to early-90's pioneers Atheist
and Cynic
. They are also known to play Death covers in live shows—another band which influences them greatly. They are currently working on their third album "Natural Causes", and at live shows in the past few years have played four new songs which are likely to appear on the album - the title track Natural Causes, Latin, and two other songs which have the working titles of Liquorland and Thirsty Camel (named after bottle shops). Guitarist Scott Young and drummer Matthew Racovalis left the band in 2007 with the latter replaced by Rob Brens, with the band still looking for a replacement for Young. Ryan Williams began playing guitar at the band's live gigs in 2009, but is not considered a full-time member at this point in time.
