Alastair Crawford is CEO and founder of i-CD Publishing, the precursor to 192.com.
An internet entrepreneur, Crawford founded i-CD Publishing UK Limited in 1997, starting it from his sister’s bedroom with zero investment. Crawford became the first challenger of BT’s monopoly of directory enquiries, becoming the first person to publish the electoral roll on CD ROM and the first to publish a UK directory enquiry site, (192.com).
In 2004, Crawford fought and won a High Court case against the Royal Mail who claimed i-CD Publishing was not licensed to use the postcode. After two years of litigation and a six day trial, the court ruled that Alastair did in fact have a license from Royal Mail. The case was mentioned in the book Silent State, by Heather Brooke.
