Plot

Glenn Close plays a woman passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Some thirty years after donning men's clothing, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making.

Production

Close first played the titular character in a 1982 stage production, and spent fifteen years trying to turn it into a film. The film almost went into production in the early 2000s, with director Istvan Szabo
