The Navy's primary role is monitoring and defense of national territorial waters against all foreign military or economic intrusion. It has adequate resources to implement its tasks and its units for those tackling the technological developments in the naval field.
It consists of 14000 (including marines " Localy called Fusillers marins " and Coast Guard ) personnel with most of its equipment provided by Russia. In June 2006, the navy ordered two new Type 636 (Kilo)
