. The council governs an area of 410 square kilometres (158.3 sq mi) and has a population of 23,893 as of the 2006 census.
Aboriginal people. European settlement of the area dates from 1862.

History
The Town of Alice Springs is an established residential township with a commercial area and rural areas on the outskirts of the town. The original inhabitants of the town were the ArrernteArrernte people
