. He was an hydrographer with the Naval Hydrographic office in Suitland, Maryland. On March 1, 1953, Hobbs was placed on the Temporary Disability Retirement List. Hobbs ceded the governor position to Ralph Waldo Hungerford on January 27, 1945. On August 30, 1948, Hobbs became the 35th Hydrographer of the United States Navy. He died on November 23, 1960 at the National Naval Medical Center
