Almens has an area, , of 8.4 km² (3.2 sq mi). Of this area, 33.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 45.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.7% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (19%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
The municipality is located in the Domleschg sub-district of the Hinterrhein district. It is located on a high terrace above the right bank of the Hinterrhein
. It consists of the village of Almens and the hamlet
of Mulegns.
