Abank was founded in 1991 by the Doğan Grubu and was enlisted in 1995 with 20% of its shares at the Istanbul Stock Exchange
. In 1996, 80% the bank was acquired by Anadolu Grubu, later the share of the group rose to 96%.
In 2006, Alpha Bank, a Greek bank, proposed to acquire roughly half of Abank's shares.
