Altoona Central Catholic School is a Catholic School

Altoona Central Catholic School provides Catholic education to residents of the Altoona area at an elementary school site and a middle school. The school builds on the exceptional traditions of nine elementary schools that were an integral part of Altoona's early Roman Catholic history.
The railroad town of great ethnic diversity gave rise to many ethnic churches, each with their own schools. For decades, these schools were staffed primarily by several religious orders of sisters. But as demographics changed and the number of religious diminished, the nature of the these parish schools had to change.
Altoona Central Catholic was a response to those changing circumstances. This new model for Catholic Schools in the Altoona area has met with great success, among other things, establishing the first middle school in the diocese.
The school's current principle is Mr. Jeff Maucieri. He was hired in 2006 after Sister Kevin the previous principle, had moved.
The school's name for short is ACCS. ACCS has been running for 14 years.
In 2006, the school needed a mascot. The student's from that year voted and the Knight topped the list, forming the ACCS Knights.
ACCS has a Middle School and an Elementary School. The Middle School is located on 4th Avenue in the greater part of Altoona. The Middle School is located in the former St.Mary's School Building, right above St.Mary's Church.
In 2005, ACCS was determined to cut down to 2 schools. They decided to stop using the Cathedral School and Mount Carmel's School and create a up-to-date elementary school. They decided to move into St.Teresa School in the downtown part of Altoona. But they needed to fix it up since it was only used for CCD
. They got to work and renovated the school to be one of the nicest elementary school's in the Altoona area. They quickly started using it when the student's came back from Christmas break in 2006.
The school's current phone number is 814-944-1250.
In 2009, ACCS did not have enough room in the Elementary School for their Pre-School. They decided to buy the St.Teresa convent since it was no longer in use. They quickly renovated it into a Pre-School environment. It was ready for the 2009-2010 school year.
