Amberleigh House won the 2004 Grand National evoking memories of Red Rum's previous triumphs for trainer Ginger McCain. A 16/1 chance on the day Amberleigh House looked like the best he could hope for was a 4th placed finish. Racing some 20 horse lengths behind the leading trio of Clan Royal, Hedgehunter and Lord Atterbury with four fences remaining. Carnage ensued however when Hedgehunter suffered a tired fall and Clan Royal nearly took the wrong course. With Lord Atterbury tiring Graeme Lee brought Amberleigh House down the outside to grab the lead inside the final furlong and win by three horse lengths.
