History

The minor district (King Amphoe) Sam Roi Yot was created on April 1, 1995 by splitting the tambon Rai Kao, Sila Loi and Sam Roi Yot from Pran Buri district

On September 7 1995 tambon Sala Lai was created by splitting off 6 muban from Rai Kao. On January 1 1996 the tambon Rai Mai was reassigned from Kui Buri district

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts. With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official.
