The A.P. University of Law (APUL) was set up in Visakhapatnam
, India
in 2008 to create a generation of able and competent lawyers who would join the Bench and prestigious law firms across the globe. It was created by an Act of the Andhra Pradesh
Legislative Assembly (Act No. 32 of 2008) with the main campus at Visakhapatnam and two centers, one each at Kadapa
and Nizamabad. The University is fully residential and conducts teaching in law and allied disciplines.their main emphasis is on practical training of the students in technical skills of the profession through Moot Court
s, seminars, project reports, expert lectures, work in law chambers, court visits and conducting legal aid and legal literacy camps in rural areas. The course is designed to provide the students with a macro perspective of Indian Society, its problems and needs.
The object of A.P. University of Law is to build on the traditional ethos of Andhra Pradesh and create a temple of learning. It aims at imparting quality legal education and organize advanced studies and research in all branches of law. The main objectives as enumerated in the A.P. University of Law Act are:
(i) To provide quality multi-disciplinary education in legal studies, keeping in view the demands of the global economy and the needs of the domestic society;
(ii) To evolve and impart comprehensive legal education at all levels to achieve excellence;
(iii) Promote research in all branches of law;
(iv) To promote cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India;
(v) To promote legal awareness for achieving Social and Economic Justice for all;
(vi) To promote inter discipline study of law in relation to Management, Technology, International Cooperation and Development.
The Government appointed Prof. A. Lakshminath as Chancellor of the University. Prof. A. Lakshminath, prior to this assignment was Vice-Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University at Patna
and he is a renowned scholar in law. This towering personality as the First Chancellor is entrusted with the leadership responsibilities in successfully establishing and strengthening the A. P. University of Law.
The Government appointed Prof. Y. Satyanarayana as the First Vice-Chancellor of the A.P. University of Law. Yet another giant in the teaching profession with about 30 years of teaching and research experience in law, Prof. Y. Satyanarayana was formerly Principal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College of Law of Andhra University

The Government appointed Prof. Amancherla Subrahmanyam as the first Registrar of the A.P. University of Law he has been teaching law in Acharya Nagarjuna University
for the past 29 years before he assumed charge as the First Registrar of A.P. University of Law, Visakhapatnam.
Course is a comprehensive double degree programme offered to 10+2 / equivalent students of all disciplines in order to equip them with the latest legal developments with an object to train them as legal professionals of global standards

It is very strongly felt that there is urgent need for advanced legal research to keep pace with the changing global and domestic needs. A.P. University of Law launches Ph. D. programme to attract the young, talented legal professionals, both from academic / Bar / Bench and service sectors to encourage and promote advanced research with multi-disciplinary approach

LL. D. is a Post-Doctoral programme offered in a very few universities across the country. A.P. University of Law has launched this programme to encourage those who have done their Ph. D. and are still very vigorously working on a topic of their choice to continue their research leading to the award of LL.D
