at the 2000 Summer Olympics
. He is a former WBA
light welterweight champion.

on a close unanimous decision, but later in the year defeated former Olympic gold medallist Mohamad Abdulaev. Kotelnik beat Gavin Rees
for the WBA light-welterweight title on 22 March 2008 in the Cardiff International Arena via 12th round TKO and made his first successful defence in his hometown of L'viv against Japanese champion Norio Kimura.
