. He then returned to Australia in 1996 to begin his senior career with Springvale City in the Victorian Premier League, where he would join his brother.
One year later Vargas joined National Soccer League club Cartlon S.C for the 1997/1998 season where he gained 6 appearances. During the NSL off-season he returned to the Victorian Premier League for the 1998 season to join Port Melbourne, where his brother was also playing.
Vargas would settle in with Gippsland Falcons in the NSL from 1998 to 2000, gaining for than 50 appearances with his time at the club.
He then signed for Melbourne Knights for the 2000/2001 season and 2001/2002 season where his brother had been since 1999, during the NSL off-season he signed to Green Gully in the VPL before returning to Melbourne Knights for the 2003/2004 season when his brother signed to Green Gully.
After the NSL folded, both Andy and Rodrigo Vargas returned to Green Gully in the Victorian Premier League. By 2006, Rodrigo had signed for Melourne Victory where as Andy had stayed at Green Gully.
