Aniwave is an annual festival combining several elements of an anime convention
and a film festival

, Aniwave was first held in Wilmington, North Carolina
at the Cameron Art Museum
and at Jengo's Playhouse as three separate events. The following year, in 2008, Aniwave continued with a three-event format and added Level 5 At City Stage as its third location. In 2009, the festival was taken back to two locations, being the Cameron Art Museum and The Soapbox.
As of 2010, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization Aniwave, Inc. was formed to govern the growing festival. As a result, several changes in programming, location, and overall format have been made. The current location of Aniwave is the new Wilmington Convetion Center in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.
