Anthony Cunningham

Anthony Cunningham is an Irish retired hurler
who played as a left corner-forward for the Galway
senior hurling team. He is the current manager of the Galway senior team.
An All-Ireland-winning captain in the minor and under-21 grades, Cunningham made his first appearance for the senior team during the 1985 championship
and became a regular player over the next decade. During that time he won two All-Ireland
winner's medals and one National Hurling League
winners' medal.
At club level, Cunningham played with the St. Thomas's club.
In retirement from playing Cunningham became involved in team management. He has enjoyed his greatest successes at club level, guiding Roscommon's St. Brigid's to three county championships in-a-row as well as a Connacht
title in 2006, while also steering Westmeath's Garrycastle to a county championships in 2009. Cunningham also had a spell as manager of the Roscommon
senior hurling team, while he guided the Galway under-21 hurlers to All-Ireland
glory in 2011.

In November 2011 Cunningham dropped one third of the team which featured against Waterford
in the 2011 All-Ireland SHC quarter-final defeat from his 37-man training squad for the 2012 season.
