Appikatla

Appikatla is a village in Guntur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.It is on the main rail road between Vijayawada and Chennai. It is also on the main bus route of GBC (Guntur-Bapatla-Chirala) road.

Appikatla has been known for Political Activism, Fine Arts, Literature and Sports. It is one of the villages in Guntur district where the importance of education was recognized very early (even before Independence). It is a farming community, but a well educated one. The village has one High School and two Elementary Schools. The school named Nehru Zilla Parishat High School is famous for education from 1948. Students from surrounding villages like Marripudi, Poolla, Etheru, Bharthipudi and Gudipudi come to Appikatla High School for studies. There is a SC/ST hostel for the students. Appikatla High School has a huge play ground. The village also has a decent library for so many years, a Government Hospital and a Veterinary Hospital.
Appikatla village has been the cultural centre for surrounding villages. Theatre arts have been part of the village culture. There are Plays, ‘Purana Kalakshepam’, ‘Harikathalu’ and so many cultural activities conducted in the village. Youth in the village used to put together Plays (called Social Dramas) and perform on the stage called ‘Nagarjuna Kala Mandapam’ near 'Mondigudi' (the village square) for celebrating all public activities. This was renovated recently and named as ‘Shankaram’ in the memory of ‘Late Sri Yalavarti Shankaram’.
Famous Telugu Poet, called as "Tenugu Lenka", Tummala Sitarama Murthy and well-known Telugu film folk songs lyricist Kosaraju Raghavaiah are from Appikatla. Women activism and equal rights for women took an important place in Appikatla and the women in village have been empowered. The first high court lady judge late Smt.Amareswari was from this village. In early 1980’s, Appikatla women have established a ‘Mahila Mandali’ (Organization for Women) and built a nice building to conduct their activities. Judge Amareswari inaugurated the building. Appikatla is very beautiful village in Bapatla Mandalam.
This village has statues like "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Gandhi,Jawaharlal Nehru, Gautama Buddha, Acharya NG Ranga, Subhash Chandra Bose, and the statue of legendary telugu leader Padmasri NTR. It is having Lord Venkateswara temple and TTD kalyanamantapam. The 'RADHOTSHAVAM' of 'Kasi Vishweshwara Temple' is famous for more than a century.The 'RADHAM' was made of 'Tadi' planks and 'Tadi Nara'. The village is mainly agriculture based and was guided by Japanese experts in late sixty's in the field of agriculture and the display of spreading pesticides by helicopters was carried out. And village is famous for political activities and well educated and Village has two rice mills one is at the starting point(Belongs to Mr Inaganti Banuprasad and another one is at ending point(Late Sri Achanti Siva rama krishnaiah rice mill)
