In 2008, Aragon did not meet 2 of 32 criteria for the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
as part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act
. Aragon failed both portions of the Percent Proficiency criteria of the AYP and therefore, failed to make the AYP. In the 2009-2010 school year, the San Mateo Union High School District had been identified as a Program Improvement (PI) district due to the district not meeting the AYP requirement for two consecutive years in a row. It should be noted that Aragon passed the federal benchmark and was not the direct cause of the Program Improvement identification.
