After leaving Petaro Cadet College, Arbab Ghulam Rahim decided to study medicine, and graduated as a doctor from the Sindh Medical College, Karachi. However, subsequent to his graduation, he chose to go into politics and has remained a prominent politician in the province of Sindh. He is a member of the Pakistan Muslim League. His family has been in politics for decades. He started his political career when he was in the fourth year of his university education at SMC, when he was elected as Chairman of Zila Council for tharparkar in 1981 under the regime of Gen. Ziaul Haq.
