, Randall read law to enter the Bar in 1818. He was in private practice in Philadelphia from 1820 to 1842. He was a clerk of the Philadelphia Select Council, Pennsylvania from 1830 to 1833. He was a judge on the Court of Common Pleas, First District of Pennsylvania from 1834 to 1842.
On March 3, 1842, Randall was nominated by President John Tyler
to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

. Randall was confirmed by the United States Senate
