Arleta HS, which, as of its opening on October 3, 2006, served grades 9 through 10 during its first year of operation, is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District
; the school phased in grade 11 in fall 2007 and phased in grade 12 in fall 2008. In June 2009, the first ever class of mustangs graduated. As of 2006, Dr. Linda Calvo is the principal. Arleta HS serves most of Pacoima and Arleta.
All three small schools utilize block scheduling where students take four 82-minute classes a day. Students finish a year's study in sixteen weeks, thus allowing for enrollment in two additional courses per academic year. Students take four semesters each year instead of two semesters, giving students an opportunity to earn 80 credits a year.
Arleta High School wants graduates to follow its four ESLRs Community Contributors, Effective Communictors, Self-Directed Learners and Critical Thinkers. Students must demonstrate sufficient growth in the ESLRs by presenting a profolio one month before graduation during California Standerized Testing. Portfolios are built during the student's freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year. Portfolios are presented to a board that consist of an administrator, teacher, and a peer.
Futhormore Arleta High Schools seniors must complete College Summit at CSNAV.ORG and become college ready by the time they graduate. Portfolio defense and College Summit is a requirement that must be met in order to graduate on stage.
