But his girlfriend is more realistic and realizes that this isn't the life she wanted for herself. Clarissa always wanted to be successful and an esteemed person of the society. She takes their daughter Julia
with her, while she leaves her son Jan
with Arno. He is shocked that Clarissa abandoned her own child and sees that he's totally drawing in raising a child all on his own. He leaves Jan with Fiona, but eventually takes him home. Soon after, Arno meets Iris Sander and marries her. Iris loves Jan like he is her own son and the couple gets two children of their own. Stubborn and troubled Susanne and the passionate yet chaotic Florian
. Because Jan remembers him of his past with Clarissa, father and son are unable to create a good going relationship. Jan leaves the household at a young age to become his own man and goes from one job to another.
, where he worked as a ski instructor for a while. He doesn't know that Julia is in fact his twin-sister and falls in love with her the moment he lays eyes on her for the first time. It takes a while until the truth will be revealed. Soon after his arrival, Jan becomes the prime suspect in the murder of Fritz Konrad. He needs to hide from the police and uses an alias, Peter Neumann, to protect himself from going to prison. In this time, Jan and Julia start to fall more and more for each other. But then Jan finds out the truth and tries to keep his distance. When Jan can prove that he didn't murder Konrad, he returns home and tells Arno that he met Julia. Arno is shocked and feels awful for all the years that have gone by without being a father to her and without Jan telling that he has another sister. When Julia gets leukemia
and needs Jan's bone marrow, she finds out the truth too. Arno still doesn't know, if he should take a chance to be part of Julia's life. When her condition gets worse, he hurries to her bedside and prays that she survives. With taking the step in Julia's life, a reunion with Clarissa doesn't take long. Arno lets her feel how furious he still is with her. But from the first moment on, he can deny the sparks still being there between them. Julia gets better and even wants to get to know Julia. On the border, Arno discovers what he and Clarissa created with keeping Jan and Julia apart, when he sees how much they love each other. And that more as a brother and a sister should. The forbidden love between Jan and Julia stays as a central storyline for more than two years. Then Julia seems to be drowned, while a trip to Lanzarote
with Jan. She later opens up to Jan in a letter that she is still alive and living in Spain
. She wants to follow him there, but Jan realizes that he never can really be together with Julia and moves with his new girlfriend to Paris.
Back to Arno's reunion with Clarissa, where soon after they begin a passionate affair with each other. Arno's marriage with Iris suffered very before the affair. Susanne finds out that her boyfriend Oliver Kopp is the murder of Fritz Konrad, while Florian runs away with his girlfriend Anna, who is Konard's daughter. When Jan is under the suspicion of murdering Konrad, Anna's mother forbids Florian from seeing Anna, which leads for the young couple to run away together. These times cost Arno and Iris much energy and fights. When later Arno's affair with Clarissa comes out, she realizes that her marriage is over. Iris leaves Arno and later begins a new relationship, even gets pregnant. But she dies on a oviduct pregnancy. When the Brandner family find out about her death, they are heartbroken that they couldn't even say goodbye to her. Arno's affair with Clarissa won't last, when she realizes that she didn't want this normal life twenty years ago and she doesn't want it know.
After the death of his first wife and Jan and Julia left, Arno meets Elisabeth Ryan
in 1999. He marries the smart businesswoman in July 2001. Only months later his first love Clarissa supposedly dies in plane crash with her archenemy Tanja von Anstetten
. Arno has later to fight about the custody for his nieces Jana
and Nico
. But the new happiness isn't for long. As Nico finds out, that Achim isn't her father, she leaves the house and searches for her father, who turns out as Johannes von Lahnstein
. His son Florian and his wife Isabel are gone too. They search her happiness in Mailand
. Arno is married to Elisabeth for six years, when she begins an affair with Johannes. Elisabeth decides to divorce Arno and shorty after that marries Johannes. Since Arno lost Elisabeth to the Lahnstein family and had to see how Jana ran into her own misery when she married Leonard von Lahnstein
and later died with a broken heart over Leonard's cheating with Jana's best friend Sarah, he despises the aristocratic family. It didn't change, even afters Johannes death in 2008.
Next to his job as owner of Brandner Bau, he currently helps his cousin Matthias
, who lives at his house together with his son David
, with raising the little Christina, daughter to Matthias' late wife Katja
. Matthias also works along with Arno at his construction company. In February 2010, the famous Brandner house gets destroyed in a fire. After Arno decides to not rebuild the family home, he moves from Cologne to Düsseldorf into an apartment with his longtime friend Charlie Schneider

In June 2011, Arno wants to see his daughter Julia again, which lives today on the Island Malllorca. Julia is now married with Dr. Ricardo Mendes and she git a son, Timo Mendes, which is the truly son of Tim Sander, killed in 1998 by Tanja von Lahnstein.
At the same time in Uruguay, Clarissa von Anstetten, which was predicted as dead, comes out of her Prison in Montevideo. She hasn`t died at the plain Crash. 10 years she lived in the Jail. Now, she changed her personality, and wants to make peace with her children, Jan and Julia, and also with Arno and Charlie.
Arno becomes the shock of his life, when the alive Clarissa von Anstetten, stands in front of him. He isnt sure, if he should trust her or neither.
