Arnold Marquis was the German record holder of dubbing. During his career he provided speaking parts for more than 800 voices in the German-language versions of international films. His distinctive gravelly voice became associated with many international film stars, among them John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, Richard Widmark, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, George C. Scott, Yves Montand, Lino Ventura, Trevor Howard, Bud Spencer, Jack Klugman, and Lee Marvin.

He was married three times and had a daughter called Gwendolyn. He died of lung cancer in Berlin, Germany.
