History
They are led by their captain of 3 years and all star forward Stephen Frost. After many years of dismal play the Packers have a legitimate shot at a long post season run. This is thanks in part to a few solid off season acquisitions by Head Coach and General Manager Shawn Patrick. The first is former Kanata Stallions goalie Joel Grills who has almost single handedly allowed the Packers to get where they are now. He consistently turns aside 40 shots a game and is arguably the best puck moving goaltender in the league. The Packers were also able to sign four 21-year-old players from the Ottawa West Golden Knights Club. Forwards Adam Cavaleri, Neal Ross, Jake Sinclair, and defenceman Joel Cleroux all were off season pick ups. Both Ross and Cavaleri held great potential but had been relegated to lesser roles with the talent rich Golden Knights during previous years. With a change of venue, both have had breakout seasons. Cavaleri, at the time of this article, leads the entire EOJBHL in goals (32) and is ranked 6th in [points] with (57) in 34 games this season. Top line center Neal Ross, brings a solid mix of scoring and toughness. His 35 points (15g-20a) are good enough for 5th on the team in points. Sinclair's poise and physical presence on the ice allow him to completely dominate and take command. This grizzled veteran of 5 years brings toughness and experience to a young Packers club. Cleroux is a solid defensive defenceman. Until recently, when he moved up front to help bring size to the forwards. While not offensively gifted, he has carved out a niche as checker and provides strong play in front of the net.The 4 players share 3 championship rings among them as well as a trip to the finals last year that ended in 7 games against the Alexandria Glenns. The Arnprior Packers play Fridays and Sundays at the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior.
