The Art Film Fest is an International Film Festival established in Trenčianske Teplice
, Slovakia
in 1993, shortly after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia
. The first annual festival commenced on 14 June, 1993 under the auspices of UNESCO
, and it is the oldest international film festival in the country.
The first year, mostly documentary films were awarded, but starting 1995 the Actor's Mission Award (Hercova misia in Slovak) was given. The award is given for special contributions to the art of film acting as a prize for longtime achievements. The premiere award's holder became Franco Nero
, and to date numerous other internationally acclaimed artists (such as Jean-Paul Belmondo
, Catherine Deneuve

, Omar Sharif
, Geraldine Chaplin
, Gina Lollobrigida

) were honored during the next fifteen years of the film festival.
In 1995, Art Film Fest expanded statutory prizes by The Golden Camera Award in addition. The most notable winners are for example Roman Polanski
