Race history
- Until 1965 the race was run in autumn for 2 year olds.
- From 1969 the race has been run in the spring for 3 year olds.
- Prior to 2006 the race was run in September.
- Prior to 2006 this race held Group 2 status.
- Prior to 2007 this race was known as the Ascot Vale Stakes. It was also run at the start of the Spring in September, and not on Derby Day as it is now, and for less prizemoney. The identification of the traditional Ascot Vale Stakes as the same race as the Coolmore Stakes run on Derby Day is therefore quite debatable.
