The Asrah levitation is an illusion effect whereby the magician hypnotize
s an assistant and commands them to recline on a table or couch. The assistant is then fully covered with a cloth and levitated under the cloth. The form of the assistant is still visible while levitating. Moments later, the assistant slowly floats down. As the magician pulls off the cloth, the assistant vanishes instantly. This Illusion is credited to Servais Le Roy
and was first performed in 1902.
Breaking the Magician's Code revealed one method for this effect. The assistant hides inside the table when the cloth obscures her from the audience, a wireform matching the shape of the assistant with fine lifting wires is then moved into place on the table before the cloth is slowly draped onto it. When the magician snatches away the cloth, the wireform is quickly lifted.
