Founded in 1918, AGC is a full-service national trade association

 with a nationwide network of chapters. AGC represents more than 33,000 firms including 7,500 of America's leading general contractors, nearly 12,500 specialty contractors and more than 13,000 service providers and suppliers.

Over 33,000 members of AGC have constructed commercial and public buildings, airports, shopping centers, factories and industrial plants, schools, dams and flood control facilities, highways, roads and bridges, ports, public transit, underground facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, multifamily housing projects, military and defense related facilities, rail and transit facilities, tunnels, housing developments and mining operations.

Structure

AGC of America is governed by a Management Committee, Executive Board and Board of Directors. These governing bodies represent member firms from every state and construction market.

 is the governing body of the Association. The Board has full authority to define policy governing its own conduct and the affairs of the Association. A primary responsibility of Directors is to facilitate communication between AGC of America and Chapters. The Board is composed of the Officers, the Executive Board, Elected Directors, Past AGC Presidents and Additional Directors.

  • AON Build America Awards

The AGC/Aon Build America Awards honor construction projects built by AGC members ranging across the building, highway and transportation, municipal and utilities, and federal and heavy divisions.

Named for AGC's 1991 President Marvin M. Black - an ardent supporter of the partnering process - the Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards recognize successful partnerships and collaborations that work to improve construction projects.

The AGC Electronic Information Systems (EIS) Committee conducts Technology Showcases to help AGC contractors maintain their knowledge by promoting contractor-to-contractor exchange of information, ideas, and real world experience with information technology.
  • AGC in the Community Awards

AGC in the Community is an initiative of AGC Charities, Inc., designed to showcase the community service projects of AGC of America's chapters. Debuting at AGC of America's 90th Annual Convention, it recognizes charitable chapter projects through actual hands-on service and donations to charitable organizations that local members are involved with. The AGC in the Community Awards will be given each year during the Opening Session at AGC of America's Annual Convention in March.

Advocacy

AGC is an advocate for the construction industry in Congress, before the federal agencies, the administration, and in the courts. AGC has a team of advocates located in a townhouse one block from the U.S. Capitol. These particular staff work directly with elected officials and government agencies to encourage additional investment in infrastructure, tax policies that promote investment, common-sense tort reform and immigration reform, which are among AGC's top priorities.

AGC's legal advocacy staff monitors nationally significant legal cases that either promise to improve or threaten to damage the business environment in the construction industry. In addition to the government affairs and legal staff, AGC maintains a $1 million political action committee - AGC PAC and a network of grassroots activists.

AGC Education and Research Foundation

The AGC Education and Research Foundation, founded in 1968, provides educational and research programs. The foundation's primary purposes are to grant college students educational scholarships, recognize outstanding educators, sponsor an annual student essay competition, and support a wide array of industry-related educational programs.

Supervisory Training and Project Manager Development Programs

AGC's Supervisory Training Program (STP) is a construction-specific training curriculum developed, updated, and field-tested by and for contractors. Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) is specific training for early-career project managers or those looking to move into such a role.

Advanced Management Program

AGC's Advanced Management Program (AMP) has been active since 1986. AGC Construction Project Manager Course (PMC) explores 15 critical areas of project management that seasoned project managers tackle on a daily basis and provides practical solutions to current industry challenges.

Distance Learning Program

AGC's Distance Learning program provides industry-specific professional development opportunities from a distance through AGC's online course offerings, webinars, and audio conferences. AGC offers online self-paced courses covering a variety of core safety issues and job responsibilities in the construction industry. Annual convention

AGC Charities

AGC Charities, Inc. was established in 2008 as a charitable organization to carry out the charitable activities of The Associated General Contractors of America and operates exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3).

AGC in the Community Awards Program, designed to showcase AGC chapters' and its member's charitable activities and endeavors, is one of the highest responsibilities of AGC Charities. The awards are given at the Opening Session of AGC of America's Annual Convention, which convenes in March of each year.
