The Australian Amateur is the national amateur golf
championship of Australia
. It has been played annually since 1894 (except for war years) and is organized by Golf Australia
.
Since 1958 it has been played in two stages, a stroke play
stage followed by a match play
stage. From 1958 to 2005, the winner of the stroke play stage, the medalist, was awarded the Australian Medal. Since 2006, the winner of the stroke play stage is named the Australian Amateur Stroke Play champion.
