Avalanche Corporate Technology
Encyclopedia
Avalanche Corporate Technology is a technology cooperative
that provides a private exchange that enables corporations to share intellectual property
(IP), particularly that represented by computer software. Avalanche is a for-profit initiative, chartered by a group of companies, to reduce the cost and increase control over mission-critical software. Members of the cooperative share intellectual property and collaborate on projects that generate IP. The subscriber agreement enables IP to be shared by and between the cooperative and its members, and collaborations to be pursued, without legal liability risks. Consultants, as well as hardware and software vendors, may also become members.
Avalanche's mission is to provide a gated community
that enables members to contribute, collaborate, and legally distribute intellectual property with other members. The community is focused on cost effective technical and business solutions that solve infrastructure, operational, and end user requirements. It does this through a structured collaboration environment that facilitates IP collaboration and acquisition of the technical and business solutions.
The cooperative is incorporated under Minnesota Cooperative Statute 308B and is governed by a set of by-laws ratified by the members.
Members include Best Buy Co., Cargill Inc., Select Comfort Corp, Merrill Corp, and Jostens Inc.
