The Avantika Express is a superfast
express train service which runs between Indore Junction BG railway station of Indore City
in the western part of Madhya Pradesh
state and Mumbai Central

the capital of Maharashtra
. The name Avantika is from 'Avanti', the former name of Ujjain
, a historical city located near Indore. This is one of the two superfast train connection between Indore and Mumbai, the other being Indore-Mumbai Duronto Express
It started functioning on 1st May, 1985.
For about a couple of years, in mid 1990s, the termination of train was changed from Mumbai Central to Bandra Terminus (A western Suburban terminus station). The order was reversed and from 1998 the train started going up to Mumbai Central.
The train is hauled by RTM WDM3A from Indore to Ujjain (about 80 KM from Indore)
From Ujjain, BRC WAP4 hauls it up to Vadodara and from there, the BL WCAM1 Loco takes over.

Trivia
The train runs seven days a week and is a popular choice of travel between Mumbai and Indore.It started functioning on 1st May, 1985.
