Situated 700m above sea level, Avoca is just 10-15 mins. drive from bigger towns such as Bowral and Moss Vale and around 25 mins. drive to Mittagong.
The village includes a public school, with around 30 students (Avoca public), an events hall (Avoca Hall) and a fire station, although it is situated further away from the main centre of the village.
Avoca is situated on the main Sheepwash Rd. The village also includes a dairy farm, which provides milk to many larger companies such as Pura
