B-611
Encyclopedia
B-611 missile and its derivatives are a series of Chinese short-range ballistic missile
s (SRBM) first developed in the late 1990’s by the China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CPMIEC). Typical targets intended for B-611 include supply line, warehouse, missiles sites, battery units, command centers, airfields, transportation hubs, and area targets in urban surroundings.
CSS-X-11 is the follow-on of earlier Dongfeng-11 (M-11, with NATO reporting name CSS-7) missile. The missile weighs approximately two tons and is powered by a solid rocket motor. The inertial guidance system with mechanical gyro provides an accuracy of CEP 150 meter or better, and this can be upgraded with laser gyro or fiber-optical gyro based on the customer’s request, thanks to the modular design concept adopted. When combined with other guidance system such as satellite guidance system, the accuracy is increased ten folds. Thanks to the same modular design concept, a variety of warhead can be equipped, increasing the versatility of the missile. Typical B-611 battery would include three vehicles, the transporter / erector / launcher housing the missile, the communication and command vehicle, and a support vehicle.
The system is highly digitized and the transporter / erector / launcher only requires three operators, and can be deployed and operated independently if needed. The deployment time is less than twenty-five minutes from the traveling state to the launch of the missile, and any targets with in the ±45° sector can be attacked. After launch, it would only take less than five minutes to retreat from the spot, thus reducing the risk and exposure of possible counterattacks from the enemy. Though the 480 kg payload of B-611 can include a single tactical nuclear warhead, it is not normally carried.
J-600T missile
With the exception of a very limited number in Chinese military for evaluation purposes, B-611 missile has not entered Chinese service en masse. Instead, Chinese military would later place large orders for B-611M missile, the follow-up of B-611 missile instead. However, B-611 found its way to Turkish military, when CPMIEC secured a successful export deal of B-611. Information provided by CPMIEC(China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation) pointed out after Turkish Army failed to secure a deal to import M270 rocket launchers, B-611 missile system was then considered by Turkish authority, negotiation with CPMIEC was started soon afterwards.. After signing a contract for the licensed production of the Chinese WS-1A and WS-1B rockets
in Turkey under the name of Kasırga in 1997, a similar contract was signed with CPMIEC for the Chinese B-611 SRBM system in 1998, for the licensed production of 200+ B-611 missiles in Turkey, at a reported cost of 300 million US dollars.
The Turkish renamed the missile as J-600T, and developed its own version of the transporter / erector / launcher named F-600T, which is based on MAN 26.372 6x6 truck, which is also the chassis of the Turkish-built T-122 Sakarya and T-300 Kasırga Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers. Using the same chassis has greatly simplified logistics and reduced costs.
Designed as a low-cost tactical ballistic missile, P-12 adopts the same modular design concept inherited from its predecessor B-611, and this means that subsystems of the missile can be selected from a wide range of options based on the customers’ affordability. For example, the most basic form of inertial guidance system of P-12 provide an accuracy of CEP of 80 meter or better, but this can be greatly improved to as much as ±2 meters when combined with other measures, such as satellite, radar, optical guidance. Video footage of test fires shown at the 7th Zhuhai Airshow by the developer has revealed that the combined guidance system of P-12 enables it to hit a target of an ordinary family house sized warehouse at its maximum range, but the developer did not reveal the exact types of guidance systems deployed. P-12 missile has entered Chinese service, along with B-611M.

Short-range ballistic missile
A short-range ballistic missile is a ballistic missile with a range of about 1,000 km or less. They are usually capable of carrying nuclear weapons. In potential regional conflicts, these missiles would be used because of the short distances between some countries and their relative low cost...

P-12
P-12 SRBM is a development of B-611, and it made its public debut at the sixth Zhuhai Airshow. P-12 is a shorter version of B-611 and is vertically launched. The chassis of the transporter / erector / launcher is a cross country 6 x 6 truck, and a total of two missiles are carried in an enclosed compartment in the back of the truck. The short deployment time of B-611 is inherited by P-12, despite the number of missiles carried has been doubled. During the launch, the first missile is erected and fired, and then the second one is erected and fired, and all of this can be achieved as short as a minute. The range of P-12 is 150 km, while the warhead is around 300 kg. A variety of warhead can be selected, and the cluster warhead of P-12 contains a total of nineteen sub munitions.Designed as a low-cost tactical ballistic missile, P-12 adopts the same modular design concept inherited from its predecessor B-611, and this means that subsystems of the missile can be selected from a wide range of options based on the customers’ affordability. For example, the most basic form of inertial guidance system of P-12 provide an accuracy of CEP of 80 meter or better, but this can be greatly improved to as much as ±2 meters when combined with other measures, such as satellite, radar, optical guidance. B-611M
A successor of B-611, B-611M has been developed and entered Chinese service, utilizing the experienced gained from both B-611 and P-12 missiles. The basic performance of B-611M is similar to that of B-611, but the firepower is doubled when adopting the same practice of P-12 missile: putting two missiles on a single transporter / erector / launcher. As with P-12, the two missiles can be erected and launched within a minute, though the simultaneous launch of two missiles is not possible. As with P-12, B-611M has some maneuverability at the terminal stage of the flight, making it more difficult for enemy to intercept. The chassis of the transporter / erector / launcher of B-611M is based on a 8 x 8 cross country truck of Baotou Beiben Heavy-Duty Truck Co. BP-12
The existence of BP-12 was revealed during the 8th Zhuhai Airshow held at the end of 2010. BP-12 is the first of the series that branched out of B-611/P-12 family. In contrast to B-611/P-12 which adopts inertial guidance, BP-12 adopts satellite guidance instead, namely, GPS, and based on the best accuracy commercial GPS could provide, the accuracy of BP-12 was given by the developer as CEPCircular error probable
