History
Founded in 1962, the club was one of the leading clubs in Soviet League basketball. It was formed out of another Kiev's club SKIF that was established in 1945. The club was established as a team of the Republican Trade Union Volunteer Sport Society Avanhard under sponsorship of the local municipal building company Kievgorstroi-4 (Kiev-City-Construction-4). In Soviet times, the club played at the 7,000 seat Kiev Sports Palace. The club has won the Soviet League in 1989, and the Ukrainian League six times, until it declined and was relegated to the lower division, due to financial problems. In 2006 however the club was rescued by a group of businessmen who have invested considerable resources into it, thus returning to the big league of Ukrainian basketball. Within two years they once again became one of the strongest teams in Ukraine, finishing second in the Ukrainian National League. In March 2010, the management of Budivelnik held a joint press conference with the CEO of Euroleague Basketball Jordi Bertomeu
